Montage Types

Rythymic – this type of edit focuses on continuing the rhythm from one edit to another at an even pace and such.

Metric – follows a specific number of frames in its edit rather than having more freedom to edit as you want. This means a frame can be cut in the middle of a scene no matter whats happening to another. Used to “elicit the most basal and emotional of reactions in the audience.”

Intellectual – this consists of editing out scenes and including metaphorical shots that can represent whats happening in a different way. According to wiki, “In Strike, a shot of striking workers being attacked cut with a shot of a bull being slaughtered creates a film metaphor suggesting that the workers are being treated like cattle.” Intellectual because you have to understand the metaphors and meanings to figure out whats exactly happening.
